Welcome to Village Bible Academy Leo Club!

What is Leo Club?
Leo Club is a branch of the world-famous Lions Club international organization. The international club is currently the largest service organization in the world boasting over 1.3 MILLION MEMBERS worldwide. Currently, Lions Club International is in over 206 countries.

Although a relatively new branch of organization, through the guidance of so many helpful Lions Clubs around the globe, Leo Club is now at over 144,000 members internationally. Just like Lions Club International, the Leo organization is dedicated towards helping the local community, as well as making an impact on a global scale. Both Leos and Lions have led numerous projects ranging from simple tree planting in the community to fundraising enough money for funding laser eye surgery in a third world country to cure eye-related disease problems that tribes in the country face. Leo club prides itself in holding true to its philosophy. Their name comes from an acronym that doubles as the organization's motto. The Leo club motto is:

  • Leadership - Leos develop skills as organizers, time managers and motivators of their peers.
  • Experience - Leos learn the importance of cooperation through community service.
  • Opportunity - Membership provides young people with a chance to excel, to develop positive character traits, and to receive recognition for their contributions to the community.

Community service remains the central focus of the Leo organization, as Leo club members enjoy serving their neighbors and watching positive results unfold.

What is Village Bible Academy Leo Club?
We were chartered in July of 2013 after spending a year trying to figure out what it meant to be a Leo club.  Our club is made up of primarily homeschool students with a passion to serve. Our sponsor, Seal Beach Lions have been invaluable in giving us direction and hosting our club.  Not only do they sponsor our club, but they support our club with service projects, funds, and much needed encouragement, direction, and mentoring. We do many service projects alongside the Seal Beach Lions and Seal Beach Leos.

So WHY join LEO Club?
Leo club is far different from many organizations because we are so broad and so versatile, offering a broad range of activities, projects and awards for students to become involved with. Some of these things include:

1. Community Service Hours: As if this one wasn't obvious enough. The Village Bible Academy Leo Club tries their best to provide the members, YOU, with community service activities regularly, so you can earn service hours.  We also encourage members to bring service opportunities to the club so others can join in the varied service projects.  No project is too big or too small!

2. Leadership Opportunities: Ever year, you will get the opportunity to run for officer positions. However, we want to offer even MORE opportunities for members to have leadership experience. Throughout the year, VBA Leo Club encourages its members to organize and lead a service activity with help from the advisor. This is a great way to stay involved with the club and show your passion and commitment!  In addition to learning leadership skills as you organize activities, VBA will participate in a district Youth Leadership Institute. Members wishing to participate in this annual event need to speak to the advisor.

3. Club Exclusive Projects: As mentioned previously, although we join hands with the Seal Beach Lions and Leos on various service projects, we have our own exclusive VBA Leo Club projects that are unique to our club. This is a great way for our passionate members to stay involved in the club and make a difference in the community in a more hands-on way! Some of our club projects have involved working with homeless shelters, organizing and sending items to children around the world, reaching out to the elderly, and even doing projects to aid children and people here in the local community and/or worldwide, or whatever our Leo members can dream up.  We believe the sky is the limit on how we can serve our community and the world. Members can become leads or participate as active project members.

4. Contests/Competitions:  The Lions Club International as well as Seal Beach Lions hold different completions throughout the year such as the Teen Recognition Award, the Student Speaker Contest, and the Lions Youth Exchange Program.  See Leo advisor to find out more about these exciting opportunities.

5. Awards & Honors: At the end of each year, Leo club will recognize members for their achievements throughout the year. If you earn 50 or 100 hours, you are eligible for the Silver or Gold Seal Award, respectively. These honors are awarded by the Lions International President and recognize all members who dedicate 50 or more hours of their time to the community!  You can also earn the President's Volunteer Award medals for your service hours.

So How Do I Join?
Just contact our Advisor, fill out an application, and come to a meeting. After working two Leo events and attending one meeting, you will earn a free VBA Leo t-shirt. We are open to accepting applications any time during the year, but of course, you will want to join as early in the year as possible to get the most out of the activities during the year.

We hope to see all of you at our club meetings, events and activities!
