12th February 2014 Visited National Agricultural Reseach Organization, Kawanda Centre.

Visited Dr. Tilla, a consultant with a USAID-funded project, to learn about Urban farming. This project is to be undertaken as the Leo Club as an income generating project, with specific interest in Sack gardening. After successful gardening, there will be outreaches by the Leos to Bwaise community and other identified communities. The visit was very helpful as there was interesting discussion about doing the farming vis-a-vis claims of having good arable land; challenge of surface run-off water as flood accurance, need for research before farming, space requirement (farming in 3D rather than the conventional 2D); water harvesting activities; self-sustainable & independent systems; Evergreen gardening; and visits to the few gardens the department had set-up.
