PROJECTS
The club plans to continue with the sustainable projects that they have been doing over the years with some improvements, they are:-
- The homework assistance project at the Walker’s Place of Safety will see the introduction of a literacy specialist who will conduct reading and English class for the children at the facility. We will also be conducting quarterly birthday parties for the children.
- We are planning on building a computer lab for the students of the Paradise Basic School in the Rae Town area of Kingston. We are currently seeking sponsors and donations toward the completion of the lab.
- Our Leos will continue carrying out mentorship programmes with the group Y.O.U.
- We plan to continue our project with the Golden Age Home and especially seeing to the care of Mr. Vassell a homeless elderly blind man that we had brought to the home.
- Beach Clean up exercise on World Environment Day
- The club will be hosting its annual Leadership forum in March 2013, with the intention of providing a greater understanding of Leoism and Lionism to its members. Theme for this forum will be ‘Membership interactions’
The club will be embarking on other projects during the course of the administrative year 2012-2013, as follows:-
- The club has hosted a health fair in the month of September we offered free :-
- Blood sugar test
- Blood pressure test
- medication were possible
- HIV rapid tests
- free dental care
- free eye screenings
- free BMI Readings
- We are planning our annual clothes drive for the residents and patients of the Bellevue Hospital and for the children at the Walker’s Place of Safety. We are also going on a book and toys drive for the children of Glen hope and the Walker’s Place of Safety. We intend on reopening the library at the Walker’s Place of Safety after we complete the book drive and creating a playroom for the children.
