FISCAL YEAR 2011-2012

Clean up of Uncle Eddies Home lawns

A clean up of the lawns of the Uncle Eddies Home was executed as the club's first environmental project since re-affiliation with the Environmental Protection Agency- Guyana. Previous projects done at the home were focused on the interior, but it was decided to beautify the outside area, by mowing and clearing the excessively tall grass in front of the home.

On Sunday August 14th, 2011, Leos were joined by volunteers and partially completed this project. Given the size of the compound and the magnitude of work that needs to be done, the club extended an invitation to its sister Leo club of South Georgetown to be a part of the continuous effort to keep the home in a tidy condition.

Clinic restoration

In keeping with the Leo Pledge "to  see the plight of others", Past President Leo Dacia Hazel planned and executed a restoration of the washroom facility at the Festival City Health Center. It was a timely gesture, as the deplorable state of the area did not afford its use to the center's patrons. This project was done on December 16, 2011.

Items needed to complete the project were pledged by Leos. A picture of the before status of the area cannot be afforded due to the Leos respecting the wishes of the center's administrators.

Den beautification

In an effort to restore the beauty of our second home, the Leos of Ruimveldt have embarked on a mission with their sponsoring Lions. The first activity to kick off this mission was the painting of the den gate, which was done on Saturday May 26, 2012. Leos who attended this project enjoyed bringing out their artistic side and had fun cementing the bonds of friendship. Other projects earmarked for the den beautification include the repairing of the fence, steps and roof, and painting of the downstairs of the building which is utilised by the Festival City Daycare Center.
