A local teenage youth service club (VolunTeen Leo) worked throughout May to collect necessary materials and gifts for the young women at Crossroads Transitional Living in Bel Air. A total of eighteen girls, ranging in age from 13 to 21, live under this program as they prepare for successful independent living after foster care. VolunTeen’s hope is that these donations will help the girls feel cared and provided for when they receive them on Tuesday, May 26th. The teen formed and teen ran youth filled laundry baskets that included leggings, detergent, jewelry, makeup, facials, cozy blankets among other items.
A major part of being a VolunTeen, also as members of Lions Clubs International, is encouraging and promoting others in the community to serve. On May 26th, Olivia Bremer and Joslyn Moore delivered the bags to the facility. Joslyn Moore (17) a board member of VolunTeen said, “I feel so fulfilled that we got the opportunity to serve these girls. There are so many people in the community who need our help. I am proud of how our donors helped us put these beautiful baskets together. I really hope the girls find good use to all the resources we gave them”.
Olivia Bremer (17) stated; “This experience has been amazing and it feels so good to be part of something that gives back. Everyone who donated was so helpful and giving. I really appreciate being given this opportunity, and I hope they enjoy them.
Drew Evans (15), founder and President of the VolunTeen Leo Club said; “We hope these teen girls receiving these baskets feel a little extra special during this crisis. These girls have been through a lot and it is not lost on VolunTeen that they are our age. This will hopefully make them smile”.
